Late last night the team was sitting around talking with each other when we realized something. Today is Androidfilehost.com’s birthday! Five years ago on April 10th of 2011, Alex sat down in front of his computer and saved the final change to the website that would become AndroidFileHost.com. He then figuratively cut the ribbon and opened the site to the public.
Androidfilehost.com got its start because one day Alex was surfing on XDA-Developers under his old username of xRepinsSporx (his username has since been changed to AndroidFileHost). He came across a ROM that he wanted to try out on his HTC Evo 4G. He hit the thanks button, followed the download links, hit download and started to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait… He had a basic understanding of web hosting and file servers and decided he wanted to give it a try. He began building the site that would soon become AndroidFileHost.com.
Over the years we’ve seen a lot of change and growth in the site. We’ve gone from Alex running things out of his home into an operation that now has several employees and contractors. We’ve gone from one initial shared web server to a dozen download servers and six upload servers all over the world. We’ve gone from one developer hosting his work on the site to thousands of them!
Now normally when you celebrate your birthday all your friends get together, you eat cake, get presents and sing the happy birthday song. We however are all of the geeky persuasion and follow the Hobbit tradition of giving gifts on our birthday. We are currently in the middle of one giveaway where we have partnered with 17 other members of the tech community but we are planning another one here in the coming weeks to celebrate our birthday with you. Keep your eyes open for more announcements about the birthday celebration giveaway.
None of this would be possible without all of you. Our users, both the developers hosting their work here and those downloading their work, have made us successful. We appreciate all that you’ve done to help us get here. Thank you for all of your support over the years. Here’s to our fifth birthday! In true Hobbit fashion we are excited to eventually be celebrating our Eleventy-First birthday with you too!
